On a Nile cruise crowded with international tourists, he crosses paths with a group of mature students from Derry. When their charismatic lecturer, Dr. Maggie McCracken, is found dead during a nighttime visit to an ancient temple, McLaughlin is suddenly hunting a killer on foreign soil, alone.

Out of his depth and out of his jurisdiction, McLaughlin turns to his team back home, D’Arcy, Lyons, Hawkins and Cahill, who continue digging into the Derry case while quietly pulling apart the secrets of Maggie’s students.
