Love’s Never-ending Quest

Ruby Stanton’s freshman year at a small Western Pennsylvania college comes with its challenges: difficult classes and a roommate she doesn’t particularly like. But she enjoys spending most of her evenings with her new friends who live life on their own terms, which Ruby admires.

Ruby’s parents, Anita and Bennie, find adjusting to life with Ruby at college lonely at times. But they rekindle their romance, which had been lacking in the past few years.

Things begin to unravel at Thanksgiving when Ruby accidentally scrapes a car at the local mall. The car owners are Michele and Joe Whitburn, local schoolteachers. At the same time, Bennie learns he will be laid off from his long-time job right before Christmas. Having the Whitburns’ car repaired and paying the bills becomes a test of their will.
