I understand how hard it is to imagine possibility when you’ve spent your childhood in chaos, dysfunction, and or poverty. How hard it is to feel powerful when the trauma you experienced was ongoing and inescapable for so long.

Sometimes, the thoughts, beliefs, actions, and reactions that saved you as a child are the thoughts, beliefs, actions, and reactions standing in the way of your dreams today. The “resilience” that ensured your survival back then may now demand that you never aim too high, never risk failure or heartbreak, and never take a break. Or, it may require you to conform to others’ ideas of what your dreams should be.
