Sheryl and Steven have always longed for a baby. But after a night of labour, Sheryl returns home with the maternal instincts of a clay brick.

Steven does his best to reassure her, but years of living next door to her mother have crushed Sheryl’s confidence. She can’t even get up in the morning, let alone choose a name for her daughter.

Steven finds a home miles from her mother and persuades Sheryl that distance is a good thing. But isolated with too much time to think, Sheryl slips into a depression, and Steven is left to cope.
