After her Manhattan career implodes, Wendi Parker returns to Hadley Cove with her rescue dog, Max, and the last of her savings to open The Painted Shell, an art store now weeks away from closing its doors forever.

Former firefighter Miles Dalton arrives in town as his father’s Alzheimer’s worsens, never expecting to meet a shop owner whose dog inexplicably adores his father. Neither realizes their connection began decades earlier, when a grieving boy received a “magic” shell from a kindhearted girl at a secluded cove.
