Humanity has everything, and no longer wants to live.

In a future where AIs are ubiquitous, civilization is prosperous and dying. Suicide rates are rising, and within years, there may be no one left, including the AIs themselves.

Heinrich Faust, a retired investigator with an inconvenient habit of doubting what everyone else accepts, is summoned by the ruling Council and given an impossible task: find the cause, and stop the deaths.

The trail leads him beyond his world into a parallel realm, more real than real, where myths are alive, ideas take form, and beauty can be as lethal as despair. He finds a woman who changes what he is, and follows Mephisto, a cunning guide who offers his service on one condition that could cost Faust everything.
