Nine years ago he left without saying why. Now she holds the clipboard that decides his future, and someone in this county wants everything she’s written down buried in the snow.

Boyd Lachance has one dog team, one shot and five men’s money riding on four days. His German shepherd, Duffy, has never been wrong about a scent. Or about a person.
