Annabelle Martin is all alone. Both her parents died and her sister married a year ago, moved away, and promised to keep in touch. But after that first letter, she hasn’t heard a word and her own letters remain unanswered. She took work as a laundry woman to earn room and board but the woman of the house is a cruel slave driver and she’s about at her wit’s end. If only she could join that wagon train to Oregon. But she’d have to be married and she’s got zero prospects.
