Somnia Obsidiana: Obsidian Dreams

In the obsidian quarries beneath Nova Roma, magic isn’t just forbidden, it’s a death sentence.

Cassian Varrus has spent his life hauling cursed stone for an empire built on blood and mana. He’s learned three rules: keep your head down, don’t ask questions, and never, ever touch the unrefined obsidian.

But when a collapsing mine forces him to save a child’s life, Cassian discovers he can do the impossible, he can command the very stone that enslaves him.

Now hunted by Imperial mages who burn heretics into the mortar of their aqueducts, Cassian is sold to a gladiatorial ludus where survival means more than winning in the arena. It means hiding a shard of wild magic that pulses with ancient power, learning to fight from a brutal trainer who sees through every lie, and staying alive in a world where the games aren’t entertainment, they’re a culling, designed to identify and eliminate anyone who might challenge the empire’s grip on magic itself.
