Sleeping Arrangements

Eight short stories about the people who make life worth living.

In his latest fiction anthology, Moshe (Garo) Ehrlich gathers a series of sharply observed tales rooted in the rhythm of Israeli life. Small towns, family ties, and old loyalties form the backdrop for an honest, lifelike exploration of childhood impressions, lingering questions, and adult disillusionment.

In “The Head of the Committee,” a founding-generation leader whose hidden love affair ends in a grotesque accident and a lifelong secret. A rigid accountant gets his worldview upended by his daughter’s reckless romance in “Dekel Jr., Certified Public Accountant.” In “The Big Robbery,” a baffling wedding-night robbery exposes both faith and opportunism. And in the titular story, a deceptively simple domestic arrangement reveals the emotional compromises that define intimacy.
