When retired Air Force paralegal Vince Marcotte sees his former commanding officer Nick Batson running for U.S. Senate, memories of a suspicious death in Afghanistan come flooding back. Fifteen years ago, Senior Airman Hassan Abdallah was found dead in the combat zone, officially ruled a suicide, but Vince never believed it.

Now Batson positions himself as a war hero and business leader, but Vince suspects the truth is far darker. Partnering with expert citizen detective Hadley Collins and drawing on help from JAG officer Lisa Dillon, who shares his traumatic memories from their deployment, Vince uncovers evidence of massive corruption that stretches from the battlefields of Afghanistan to the corridors of political power.
