In my early twenties, I faced some of the most horrific times a person could imagine one right after the other, profound loss, abandonment, separation from loved ones, emotional and mental trauma, addiction to numb the pain, dark depression, and even an attempted act of suicide.

As everything was being taken away from me, I felt wounded and perplexed without an ounce of fight and courage left in me. I felt like I was in the middle of a storm with lightning flashing and the thunder cracking. Oh, how I wished for the storm to pass, but no, it was here to stay, leaving catastrophic devastation behind that would take years to heal, if ever. All I could ask was one very real and critical question: Are You there, God?
