After the (frustratingly avoidable) loss of her sentinel, Saab Saabrina is invited by an old friend and mentor to spend some time on some primitive, pre-warp world: Earth.

It’s not a comforting social visit; instead, it’s a setup. Saabra wants Saabrina to meet Bob, a middle-aged single dad on the edge of empty nestdom. He’s about as far from a standard-issue sentinel as Saabrina can imagine, but maybe she could use something different.
